General Notes:
Joseph, youngest son of Joseph and Sarah, took over the farm from his parents around 1929-1930. His wife was Phyllis Whyte, daughter of Mr and Mrs J.R. Whyte, Tokomaru and their three children were Josie Margaret, who died aged 13 months in 1922; Norman Joseph and Betty Charlotte.
Joe, over the years, was actively involved around the distrcit and served as a counsillor on the Horowhenua County Council for a number of years. A Director of the Tokomaru Dairy Company, he was also a Domain Board Member, on the vestry of St Aidans Anglican Church and a Masonic Lodge Member (Past Grand Steward).
Normand and his wife Ruth (nee Handley) began farming the same farm in 1947 and purchased the property in 1963. They built their own home on the boundary of the farm on Matipo Street, and Mr and Mrs Liggins senior lived in the original homestead, along with Mr J.R. Whyte, until moving to Waitarere Beach on selling the farm. 16
