Charles was the first son of Joseph and Sarah and was born 28 November 1875 at Measham, England.
He became a school teacher at Rongotea School.
He married Kate Broad at Napier and had two children, Mavis (Mrs Rabone) and Jack, who married Olive Roach at Rotorua.
Charles and Kate eventually settled in Wanganui until their deaths in 1939 and 1958 respectively.
